Hey friend,
You found tomiadeyemi.com because you want to be a writer. But guess what?
You already are.
You’re a writer.
It doesn’t matter where you are in your writing career, it doesn’t matter if you’ve been published, it doesn’t even matter if you’ve never finished a book!
You are a writer! You string words together until they’re beautiful, you create worlds with just a paper and pen (or likely a Word document and a keyboard, but you get the idea).
The reason I’m telling you this now is because new writers often tell themselves they’re not really writers, not “yet” anyway.
No, new writers keep to themselves, they write in the wee hours of the morning or night, and they don’t show their work to anyone. New writers won’t call themselves writers until they’re published, until they become the next J.K. Rowling or James Patterson. And why?
Because new writers are waiting for the world to tell them that their writing dreams are real and theyget to call themselves writers.
But guess what? No one gets to tell you when you become a “real”writer because you are a real writer, a writer who should be taken seriously and a writer who’s going to make the world a better place with your stories.
I’m telling you this now because it took me way too long to realize I was a real, legitimate writer. I was so convinced I wasn’t a “real” writer that I didn’t show anyone my writing for 20 years. I’m not joking. TWENTY years. And why?
Because I didn’t think I was good enough to call myself a writer, because I didn’t have a best-selling book on the charts, I didn’t even have a full book written!
How could I call myself a writer without one book to show for it?
There’s a happy ending to this story because the day I told myself I was a writer my writing career changed. I finally started moving forward, writing (and finishing!) books, and exploring publishing opportunities.
If I could go back in time, I would grab the old me by the shoulders and shake me until I believed I was a writer.
So this is me grabbing you by the shoulders and shaking.
You are a writer!
Now. Today. In this moment.
Not when you finish your first novel, not when you get published. Now.
You’re a writer today and that means you and I are going to stop playing around and start making your writing dreams a reality. Because that’s what tomiadeyemi.com is about.
You have ideas, you have dreams. Together, we’re going to make those dreams real books that we get to share with the world.
I’ve been working really hard over the past few weeks on a program that will move you from a writer with an idea to a writer with a novel and I’m really excited to share that program with you - click here to learn more about it!
(And if you want to get an awesome sneak peak at this program, click here!)
But right now I want to hear from you!
What makes you think you’re not a “real” writer? What’s keeping you from really starting your writing career?
Let me know in the comments!
Can’t wait to hear from you and remember, you’re already a writer.
Talk soon,
Tomi
